Cholo-goth pioneers PRAYERS formed in late 2013 in San Diego with Leafar Seyer providing vocals, and Tijuana based electronic artist Dave Parley handling production. They have created a genre known as SD Kill Wave aka Cholo Goth, which fuses the sounds of new wave with southern California gang lifestyle. Prayers pulls from the darkest dance and goth elements with touches of the Pet Shop Boys and Bowie to ALBUMS: bring their stories of pride and struggle to life.
During the last semester of my film-school media arts program, I was given my final
assignment which was to produce a Public Service Announcement, have it
sponsored by a non-profit organization with the intention of broadcasting the
final segment to local TV stations.
Sure enough, I decided to base my topic around Suicide Prevention since it’s always
struck a deep chord within my life. I have personally gone through it and have
lost several close friends from this illness.
Although I look back at this accolade with repentance in mind, It’s something I’d like
to re-share to the public in hopes to inspire others who are currently going
through the same thing or know someone who is.

For those that don’t know me, I’d like to share that I have always been a special effects and animation enthusiast. After I graduated film school I was influenced by many industry professionals those among prop builders, art directors and the original animation pioneer himself, Ray Harryhausen. And although it may take years to master any cinematic craft to make an appearance on the silverscreen, I’ve managed to apprehend the start of my 10,000 hours of practice by creating amateur garage films that went absolutely nowhere, but I just enjoyed making.
In 2009 I began my journey by taking apart random electronics purchased from local thrift stores. I started kit-bashing spaceships and miniature sets, choreographing action scenes on greenscreens and compositing them all together into one sequence. I did the same with my photography utilizing custom backgrounds for my models. Every set I eventually made, I aimed to produce better than the last.
Here’s my behind the scenes presentation of how I did it. Thanks for your time and hope you enjoy!
